Consultation – Replacing the play area at Somersall Park

The play area at Somersall Park is outdated and in need of replacement. The current site for the play area is in the shade of trees and so gets no sun, and the thick leaf litter, leaves a dirty, slippy coating on the play surface. Local people have raised their concerns about the condition of the play area. The Friends group working in partnership with the council have developed plans to replace the play area with exciting and up to date play equipment, in a new location across the stream into the main field. The old play area would be removed and returned to grass.

The Council has a small sum of money to put towards this project but most of the funding will need to be found from grants.

We have watched so many of Chesterfields parks get new play equipment and patiently waited for our turn. This has not happened and now the community is taking action!

The play proposals below are to cover two age groups – toddler to age 7, and age 8 -13 years. Please also note that in the Council’s masterplan for the park, that there is the possibility of later acquiring equipment for older kids and teens, but the update to the existing play area has been established as our first priority from all the consultation we have already done.

Four play companies have put in bids to carry out the work, and you will find impressions of their proposals below – please click on the thumbnails to enlarge the images

The consultation period has now passed and all form submissions are being collated and submitted to the council, as always thank you for your time and interest
